Meet the Team
Our Team
Meet our passionate team of healthcare professionals dedicated to helping patients overcome chronic illnesses and pain with functional restorative medicine and targeted holistic techniques.
Michael Buyze, MS, L.Ac., Dipl.Ac.
Entrepreneur, Visionary, Creator, and Owner of East Wind
Mike has over 40 years of experience in healthcare. He holds a Master of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology (with a specialty in Preventive and Rehabilitative Cardiovascular Health), Masters of Business Administration (MBA), and Master of Science in Oriental/Traditional Chinese Medicine (MSOM). His expertise includes acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), functional medicine, integrative medicine, clinical exercise physiology, and nutrition.
He has worked extensively in the areas of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic pain, autoimmune conditions, longevity and fertility with an emphasis on wellness within the limitations of chronic health conditions. In his early career (early 1980’s to early 1990’s) he was instrumental in the development of cardiac rehabilitation in northeastern Wisconsin having managed cardiac rehabilitation programs at Appleton Medical Center and Theda Clark Regional
Medical Center as well as serving as a consultant in the development of satellite cardiac rehab programs at nearly a dozen community hospitals.
He then went on to work with Diabetes Treatment Centers of America managing a contract at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan which focused on cost effective management of patients with diabetes. In 1995 he returned to school to study Chinese Medicine obtaining his master’s degree and opening East Wind in 1998. Through the years he built East Wind by developing relationships with other healthcare providers in Appleton, Fond du Lac, and Oshkosh. He also worked with pain clinics in Chilton and Cedarburg. Never satisfied with what had been accomplished, he spent a significant amount of time thinking about the way things were and wondering if there was a better way.
He constantly tinkered creating programs that reflected his thoughts about that better way. He still wonders, and East Wind is the manifestation of all of that wondering. Today he is especially interested in helping people find better ways to function vibrantly as they age rather than relying on medications and surgeries that sacrifice “health” for “medical stability” because being medically stable and being healthy are not the same thing!
Kazumi Senda, L.Ac., Dipl. OM
Acupuncturist/TCM Provider
Born and raised in Japan, she began practicing acupuncture in 2007 working with famous teacher Soumei Kaneko at the Odawara Acupuncture Clinic in Odawara, Kanagawa, Japan, where she became highly skilled in a special Japanese method of acupuncture. She came to the United States in 2013 and despite 7 years of experience in Japan, was required to complete a master’s degree program in the United States. Her command of English was limited so she enrolled in an English Language School as well as an acupuncture school. She received a master’s degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in New York in 2018. She passed her board exam and was certified as a Diplomate in Oriental Medicine. She practiced in Manhattan until 2022 when she came to East Wind. She brings a tremendous amount of energy and enthusiasm to her work. She has special expertise in pain as well as oncology and fertility.
Pam Oudenhoven
Patient Accounts/Medical Records/Insurance Expert
Pam operates primarily “behind the scenes” to handle all aspects of patient accounts and medical records, from insurance benefits inquiries, pre-authorizations, claims submission, payment posting and collection. She joined our team in 2010 after working as the billing manager for a chiropractic office.
One of the unique abilities of East Wind is our expertise in handling third-party payments. While this is very common in the traditional Western medical world, it is rare in the world of acupuncture, Chinese Medicine and alternative medicine. Pam has been primarily responsible for building the systems that allow us to seamlessly understand and navigate the rules, regulations and nuances of the insurance payment world. She has been particularly successful in being East Wind’s “point person” for dealing with the Veteran’s Administration with whom we have an excellent relationship and reputation. We have a history of over 10 years of dealing with the VA’s Community Care Program and its predecessor programs. It takes a team effort to establish our reputation with the VA, it is Pam who serves as the liaison between our office, the VA administrators and the veterans themselves. She has also done extensive work with traditional insurance companies as well. Believing that each of us has the right to choose the course and type of care we want, Pam is a staunch advocate for patients. Because of her diligence and experience in collecting from insurance companies, we have billed out more acupuncture services to third-party payers (insurance) than any other acupuncture and wellness clinic in Wisconsin.
Angie Sengenberger
Onboarding Specialist/Program Advisor/Health Ascension Specialist
Angie has been with East Wind since 2017. She serves multiple roles working out of our Appleton office. As an “onboarding specialist” she is usually who you sit down with for your Discovery Consultation. In this role she discusses your case to help you to ensure that the services that you are about to receive are appropriate for you. She helps you understand our processes and pricing so that you know exactly what to expect.
As a program advisor, she helps to make sure our clients stay on track with their programs. She also provides much of the data collection aspects of your initial evaluation as well as any re- evaluations you might have.
In her role as health ascension specialist, she helps our clients figure out ways to implement the recommendations from our providers. She was drawn to us because of her own autoimmune challenges and has been “finding a way” for herself and our clients for years now.
Jamie Spice
Front Desk/Concierge/Acupuncture Assistant
Always donning a smile and a friendly word, Jamie has been with us since 2016. She is primarily responsible for the scheduling and smooth flow of our patients in our Appleton office. She grew up in the Fox Valley and is an animal lover.
Jenny Hoeksema
Front Desk/Concierge/Acupuncture Assistant
Jenny joined East Wind in 2021 after raising her children as a “stay at home mom.” She grew up in the Milwaukee area and now lives in Fond du Lac. She assists in scheduling and organizing appointments in our Oshkosh and Fond du Lac offices, as well as assisting the acupuncturist in keeping things flowing smoothly.
Andrea Buyze
Front Desk Assistant
Andrea is a student at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and helps out with reception and scheduling as well as other “backstage” duties when she is home from college. She shares Mike’s name because she is his daughter. She has been helping out around the office since she was quite young. She intends to major in business, is a gifted violinist and public speaker and has a constant companion in her little white dog “Barry” whenever she is home.
