Keep in mind that the only reason we store fat is to survive a shortage of food. In addition to the ability to store fat, our metabolism is tied to the availability of food. So, when we start to tap into our stored fat, the weight comes off pretty easily.

Then, we reach a second level mechanism to preserve our life, a more efficient metabolism. By more efficient we mean getting more mileage out of each calorie. This causes fat consumption to slow down because your body doesn’t want to run out!

When you go on a diet, the caloric deficit leads to weight loss. When the second level of metabolic slowing kicks in, the weight loss slows or stops, and the effectiveness of your new diet diminishes.
